Side effects of Percocet

Like any other drugs, Percocet, a combination of acetaminophen and oxycodone have side effects and some are potentially serious side effects, such as drug addiction liability. The addiction liability is for oxycodone, as it belongs to narcotics group of pain relievers.  The side effects of Percocet are mainly due to oxycodone component of the drug and very few if any are due to acetaminophen which has very low side effect profile on its own. Before you start using Percocet for pain relief (moderate to severe pain), you should be aware of the side effects of this brand name, especially the potentially serious side effects.

Serious side effects of Percocet:

The serious (and potentially serious) side effects of Percocet include the following:

  • liability to getting addicted to Percocet (physical dependency to the drug), slow heartbeat (bradycardia), difficulty in breathing,
  • fainting, seizures,
  • nausea, vomiting,
  • jaundice, dark color urine, dark color stool,
  • Confusion, bizarre behavior.
  • Drug addiction.

If you notice any of these side effects of Percocet while you are on Percocet, consult your doctor as soon as possible.

Mild side effects of Percocet:

Less serious side effects of Percocet include mild nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, stomach upset, blurring of vision, dry mouth etc. These are generally mild and disappear in few days. If these minor side effects last for longer than few days, consult your doctor who prescribed Percocet to you.

N.B: Last but not the least is allergic reaction to Percocet. The allergic reaction of Percocet is manifested by hives, difficulty in breathing; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat and if you notice any of these symptoms, get emergency medical help.
